Professor Dr. Hubert Gasteiger joins Pajarito Powder Technical Advisory Board.
October 25th – Professor Dr. Hubert Gasteiger has joined the Technical Advisory Board of US-based Pajarito Powder, a leading supplier of novel Precious-Metal-Free (PMF) catalysts and Engineered Catalyst Support (ECS) materials for the fuel cell and electrolyzer industry, the company announced today. Dr. Gasteiger is among the foremost contributors to the field of electrocatalysis in the world and is considered an expert in electrocatalyst development and fuel cell and battery chemistry.
Dr. Gasteiger is Chair of Technical Electrochemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where he manages a group focused on electrocatalyst research and development. His experience is rich in industry-focused electrochemistry development; he was Technical Manager for catalyst and MEA development in the Fuel Cell Activities at General Motors over eight years. He returned to academia as a visiting Professor at MIT, where he worked on lithium-air batteries. He has published 140 papers (H-index 63; 22,000 citations) in peer reviewed journals, along with 15 book chapters, and 38 patents and applications.
Technical Advisory Board Chairman, Dr. Piotr Zelenay expressed excitement about Dr. Gasteiger’s addition to the Pajarito Powder team, “Hubert is truly a top expert in fuel cell electrocatalysis and will contribute with his knowledge as well as his experience working on fuel cells at large and small companies. This also marks the expansion of Pajarito Powder’s Technical Advisory Board beyond North America, with our first Europe-based member.”
On his part, Dr. Gasteiger shared, “I am very excited about joining Pajarito Powder’s Technical Advisory Board, to assist them in their mission to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles through better electrocatalysis. It is a wonderful, world-class group of colleagues and I am pleased to be a part of it.”
CEO Thomas J. Stephenson added, “Dr. Gasteiger’s joining the Technical Advisory Board is a remarkable honor for us and an indication of the importance of our company’s work in reducing the overall cost of fuel cells; his work is globally recognized and we look forward to his guidance and advice, along with the other members of our Technical Advisory Board, to our ongoing technical development efforts.”
Pajarito Powder, LLC is a venture-backed startup that provides high-performance, affordable catalyst technology. Pajarito Powder’s Engineered Catalyst Supports (ECS) improve performance, extend working life and reduce the cost of fuel cells for the most demanding applications, including FCEVs. Pajarito Powder’s world-leading commercial Precious Metal Free (PMF) catalysts provide a near-term low-cost solution for low and moderate power density applications, such as back-up power, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and waste-water treatment. Lastly, Pajarito Powder recently began expanding the use of its VariPore™ process by developing new formulations for electrolyzer applications, offering the potential for lower capital and operating costs for electrolyzers, critical to broad deployment of clean, on-demand and on-site hydrogen production.
