Pajarito Powder participates in HydroGEN kickoff as partner on Georgia Tech Project

Georgia Tech building

Pajarito Powder is a subcontractor to Georgia Institute of Technology on: High Performance AEM LTE with Advanced Membranes, Ionomers, and PGM-Free electrodes.  Pajarito Powder will work closely with the principal investigator, Professor Paul Kohl, providing both OER and HER catalysts for the project.

Pajarito Powder, Chief Scientist Dr. Alexey Serov said, “The HydroGEN initiative spurs collaboration between federal laboratories, academia and private companies like Pajarito Powder to work on focused projects that accelerate development of critical hydrogen technologies.”

The HydroGEN consortium is led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and includes Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, Idaho National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Savannah River National Laboratory.

HydroGEN is funded by U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) through the Fuel Cell Technologies Office (FCTO) and is part of the HydroGen program of the Energy Materials Network (EMN).

The mission of EERE is to create and sustain American leadership in the transition to a global clean energy economy; funding mechanisms through the FCTO enable a large portfolio of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies through applied research, technology development and demonstration projects. This project fits within the larger DOE H2@Scale that explores the potential for wide-scale hydrogen production and utilization in the United States to enable resiliency of the power generation and transmission sectors, while also aligning diverse multi-billion-dollar domestic industries, domestic competitiveness, and job creation.

By producing hydrogen when power generation exceeds load, electrolyzers can reduce curtailment of renewables and contribute to grid stability. Hydrogen produced from existing baseload assets can also be stored, distributed, and used as a fuel for multiple applications.

Pajarito Powder, LLC is a domestic venture-backed startup, funded by the Verge Fund, Omphalos Venture Partners and other investors, focused on developing next-generation catalysts and catalyst supports for the fuel cell and electrolyzer industries. Working with automotive OEMs, fuel cell component companies and major electrolyzer manufacturers, Pajarito Powder is an established leader in advanced catalyst and catalyst support development in rapidly accelerating clean/green hydrogen energy industries.
