Successful DOE AMR for Pajarito Powder

US DOE Annual Merit Review, 2019

May 8, 2019

From April 29th through May 1st Pajarito Powder CTO and President Dr. Barr Zulevi and Chief Scientist, Dr. Alexey Serov participated in the United States Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program Annual Merit Review (AMR) for the fifth year in a row. Hosted in Crystal City, VA this year, the event is the primary exhibition of all hydrogen and fuel cell technology research projects supported by Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), under the auspices of the United States Department of Energy (DOE).

Pajarito Powder’s CTO, Dr. Barr Zulevi presented a poster on the company’s ARPA-E contract and work-to-date on advanced catalysts (and, ultimately electrodes with partners Proton Onsite and IRD Fuel Cells) for hydrogen generation, particularly in alkaline environments. This presentation was met with enthusiasm and led to other discussions about the company’s work in the adjacent automotive space.  Dr. Zulevi commented on the attendance, “This was an extremely large crowd, reported with 20% to 30% higher attendance than the past, with major companies from around the globe.”

Chief Scientist Dr. Alexey Serov presented a poster with early results of a DOE EERE funded project under the ElectroCat Consortium framework.  Dr. Serov commented, “Our project was enthusiastically received with a great deal of curiosity about our work, eliciting excited interest.”

Pajarito Powder CEO, Thomas J. Stephenson commented, “AMR is the de facto gathering in the US for all the major players with a vested stake in the advancement of hydrogen fuel cells and electrolysis. Increasingly, it draws an international crowd of mobility companies embracing hydrogen as the primary means towards electrification of transportation.”

Significant mentions of Pajarito Powder from US DOE staff presentations included:

Pajarito Powder, LLC is a venture-backed startup, funded by the Verge Fund and other investors, focused on developing next-generation fuel cell catalysts and catalyst supports for the automotive and electrolyzer industries. Working with both automotive OEMs and major electrolyzer manufacturers, Pajarito Powder is well poised to lead in advanced catalyst and catalyst support development in rapidly developing clean/green hydrogen industries.
