PAJARITO POWDER RAMPS UP PRODUCTION TO SUPPORT NEW FUEL CELL VEHICLE
October 1, 2026
OCT. 1, 2026 — Albuquerque, NM, USA — Pajarito Powder, LLC, an innovative materials technology company that specializes in catalysts for electrolyzers and fuel cells, is increasing production capacity fourfold to support a new hydrogen fuel cell vehicle launching soon.
The company invested in advanced manufacturing equipment to now produce 20-kilogram batches of its proprietary fuel cell support material. Previously, the company produced 5-kilogram batches of their “Engineered Catalyst Support” in a laboratory-type production space. With the installation of a new ball mill and large furnace in a separate location, the company can now produce up to hundreds of kilograms per year.
“These enhancements in production capacity boost Pajarito Powder’s position as integral supplier to major hydrogen fuel cell producers,” said Christian Mohrdieck, Pajarito Powder CEO. “The new equipment will allow Pajarito Powder to support the requests of a major automotive customer.”
The larger batches will be manufactured in a 2,500 sq meter (27,000 sq ft) facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. The building has high ceilings to accommodate upgrades and tall manufacturing equipment.
Pajarito Powder produces three distinct products:
• Engineered Catalyst Supports (ECSTM), the focus of the manufacturing scale-up effort, and the basis from which fuel cell catalysts are made. Serving as the foundation, ECS provides a more rigorous platform upon which to build high-performing catalysts.
• Complete Platinum Group Metals (PGM) catalyst solutions on Pajarito Powder’s proprietary Engineered Catalyst Support (ECSTM).
• Electrolyzer Catalysts for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) and Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer applications, with best-in-class performing Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) and Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) catalysts.
