Pajarito Powder part of LBNL catalyst project funded by DOE Tech Commercialization Fund

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced funding for $33 million in projects selected by the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT) Technology Commercialization Fund (TCF). Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will receive funding to develop Nanosegregated Bimetallic Oxide Anode Catalyst for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Electrolyzers. Supporting the project are Pajarito Powder, LLC along with IRD Fuel Cells and Proton OnSite/NEL.

The aim of this effort, by the DOE, is to “advance the commercialization of promising energy technologies and strengthen partnerships between DOE’s National Laboratories and private sector companies.” The TCF was created by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to promote promising energy technologies by supporting entrepreneurs’ efforts to engage with the DOE National Laboratory complex. The TCF selections that were announced will expand DOE’s efforts to broaden the commercial impact of the Department’s portfolio of research, development, demonstration, and deployment activities.

Pajarito Powder’s Chief Technology Officer Dr. Barr Zulevi commented, “This is an exciting opportunity which allows Pajarito Powder to work with new catalysts and world leaders in development and deployment of electrolyzer catalysts. I look forward to working with LBNL, IRD Fuel Cells, and Proton OnSite/NEL.”

DOE received over 220 applications for 2020 TCF funding, with project teams from more than 130 different partners across multiple diverse disciplines. Teams must receive a 50 percent match of non-federal funds from private partners to receive a TCF award.

Pajarito Powder, LLC is a domestic venture-backed startup, funded by the Verge Fund, Omphalos Venture Partners and other investors, focused on developing next-generation catalysts and catalyst supports for the fuel cell and electrolyzer industries. Working with automotive OEMs, fuel cell component companies and major electrolyzer manufacturers, Pajarito Powder is an established leader in advanced catalyst and catalyst support development in rapidly accelerating clean/green hydrogen energy industries.
